The Team

Dr Yoav Keynan, MD PhD, Director and Principal Investigator

Adriana Trajtman, BSc, MSc. Lab Manager

Hello Everyone! Welcome to our website.

I am Dr. Keynan's lab manager. Working with graduate students within the University environment is my dream come true. Overall, I enjoy teaching and I am passionate about science, mostly in the fields of medical microbiology and infectious diseases. I received my title of "Bioquimica" from the Universidad de Buenos Aires, Argentina and then, I worked for many years in a TB reference center in the clinical and diagnostic settings. Since 2003, when I arrived in Winnipeg, I have been working in the health sciences and clinical/basic science research fields.  It was not until I received my Masters in Medical Microbiology from the University of Manitoba that I entirely devoted my career to the research lab.  I do believe that research is fun!

Breanne Head, MSc, PhD student

Breanne started her program in September 2016. Breanne holds a MSc. in Medical Microbiology from the UM and chose our lab to move her career forward. She is involved in the HIV-atypical pneumonia project that we are conducting in collaboration with the University of Antioquia in Colombia. She will also be involved with a number of ongoing and prospective studies.

Mariana Herrera Díaz, BSc, MSc, PhD student Epidemiology. Universidad de Antioquia, Medelllin, Colombia

Mariana is performing her PhD program project in our lab. Her research is related to the TB project. She is using cytokine profile testing and gene expression to find biomarkers that could identify the transition of latent TB infection to active TB.

Mariana also took the ECO ID course at UM and presented a poster to the Canadian Student Health Research Forum at the University of Manitoba.

Jenniffer Rodiño Montoya PhD student Universidad Pontificia Bolivariana, Medellin, Colombia

Jenniffer is performing her PhD program project in our lab. Her research is related to the TB project. She is using DNA and RNA sequencing to identify a pattern that correlates with active and latent TB infection.

Jenniffer also took the ECO ID course at UM. Her project is carried out with the collaboration of Dr. Paul McLaren and his team at the J.C.Wilt infectious disease research center, WInnipeg, Manitoba. Public Health Agency of Canada.
